Don’t Eat Without Us!
What is an immediate denture? An immediate denture is a denture that will be made prior to a dentist extracting your natural teeth. We will require a few appointments before you have your teeth removed to take impressions, bite registrations, amongst other discussions and procedures on what your expectations and our limitations are on your functional and aesthetic needs. We have endless possibilities and smiles we can create for you to give you the smile you deserve, and are very willing to work with you to make sure we can achieve the smile you want. We want to please you, so any insight, desires or ideas you have, whether it is an idea, or a picture, please share them with us and we will do what we can to accommodate you. Insertion and post insertion of an Immediate Denture: When we are finished your Denture you will be required to take it with you to your dentist's office the day of your extractions for the dentist to insert. After the insertion of your new immediate denture we will bring you in for a 24 hour post insertion exam, please leave your denture in for the 24 hours this is very important to contain the tissue and aid the heeling process. We will remove it for you and make any adjustment we can to make the denture as comfortable as possible. We understand that this may be uncomfortable but a very important part of the process to a comfortable, well-fitting denture. New dentures may take up to 6 weeks to seat and settle so be patient and don't be alarmed if they feel too loose or too tight. Whatever the case, we can help. Adjustments: For the first days, weeks, and possibly months, your tissue will be going through changes; unfortunately the denture will not change without our help. You may need several adjustment appointments on a regular basis, weekly or monthly is not uncommon. Fortunately we are only a phone call away and are happy to accommodate and help you through the hard times if any. There is no charge for adjustment appointments, but we do ask that you call us in advance to make an appointment so we can schedule enough time to cater to your needs. Relines: As your tissue heals it will also shrink, unfortunately your denture will not shrink with it. Some patients experience rapid tissue shrinkage and others very little shrinkage. At the 24 hour post insertion exam we will have a better insight of how much, or how little you may or may not experience, but unfortunately we can never be certain of these changes, don't panic, we can and will help. If the heeling process is fast or longstanding we can use temporary lining material to tighten up the denture while the tissue is heeling to make things more comfortable for you. After your tissue is fully healed (this may take several weeks or months) we can reline or rebase the denture permanently to get the tightest fit possible with comfort. There is a charge for the final reline after everything is heeled, so it is best to be patient during this time, follow the treatment plan, and let your tissue fully heal. We will help you in every way possible to determine if you are ready for the final reline, if it is done to early it may have to be repeated so be patient. Post care: Your tissue is constantly changing so adjustments are a normal part of wearing a denture so please calls if something is troubling you and we are more than happy to help you. Please be diligent cleaning your denture, food particles under your denture can be the cause of many sore spots, and possible infection. Please be sure that you wear your denture for as long as possible prior to your adjustment appointments, we can quickly and accurately adjust sore spots if we can see them. It is recommended that you have your dentures checked once a year for fit, function, and structure to make sure you maximize the life expectancy of 5-7 years of that denture. If your prone to calculus build up we have a great in office cleaning system we offer, please call and we will book you for a cleaning. Make sure to use denture specific products only on dentures, natural tooth paste is strongly not recommended, it is very abrasive and will break down your denture, and change the fit. Please avoid the use of denture adhesive a minimum of 12 hours prior to any appointments, some of the ingredients in adhesives can disrupt the impression materials, or products that we use, also it's messy and can hinder how we asses sore spots and the accuracy of what we can do for you and may require rescheduling of your appointment.
